In computing, the windows registry is a directory which stores settings for the operating system of Microsoft Windows 32-bit versions and 64-bit versions. Actually, the registry saves all information about software installation data including file location, create time, software version, serial-number, user name, interface position, etc.

According to different ways of software installation, the information are also different. When a user prepares to run an application, the registry will provide information to the operating system, then applications can be found, the correct location of data files were stipulated. In general, it is suggested that ordinary users should not change the system registry, as once you modify the wrong value in registry, it may be resulting in serious effect.
