You do not have access to logon to this session

Error message when you try to use the Remote Assistance feature on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003: "You do not have access to logon to this session"

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, you try to use the Remote Assistance feature to offer remote assistance to a user on another computer. However, when you try to send an invitation to another computer, you may receive the following error message:

You do not have access to logon to this session

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Delete the fInHelpMode registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server
c. Right-click fInHelpMode, and then click Delete.

2. Restart the computer.

3. Resend an invitation to the computer to start a Remote Assistance session.

After you remove the fInHelpMode registry entry (See, How to remove a registry entry), you can still use Terminal Services to connect to another computer. Additionally, you can still use the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) together with the Remote Assistance feature to remotely manage another computer.
