Making own Vista Logon Screens by replacing imageres.dll

The Logon screen is the screen that shows the accounts on your computer when you are logging on. This consists of the Welcome, Shutdown, Lock Computer, Switch User, Logon, and Logoff screens. In Windows Vista, you can make you own Logon Screens. Here is a way to make own Vista Logon Screens by replacing imageres.dll.

Step 1: Locate "imageres.dll" in Vista's System32 folder (C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll)

Step 2: Copy it on your desktop. Download Resource Hacker or PE Explorer.

Step 3: Open the imageres.dll file in ResHacker or PE Explorer. Go to the IMAGE folder.

Step 4: Dit the loginscreen (replace the image) for your current resolution.

Step 5: Save and copy this file to Vista's System32 folder after backing up the original imageres.dll file.
