SafeHouse SafeHouse Professional Edition 3.00.083 Transparent on-the-fly hard drive encryption for your PC
Review by Michael E. Callahan aka Dr. File Finder
SafeHouse Professional File Encryption 3.00, by PC Dynamics, Inc. is a cool tool that lets you protect your important data by using high-level encryption. In using the program I was impressed with how fast it is. It creates an expandable area on your hard drive and assigns it a driver letter. You can only access this drive using the password you assigned. So, if you have documents, photos, music, or any other data that you want to keep from prying eyes you can store it on your SafeHouse volume. In addition you can create more than one "drive." The program is easy-to-use making it perfect for users with all levels of experience. While testing it out I made a couple of 5 gigabyte "storage vaults" and moved files into them. When I closed the vaults the drive letters disappeared, making those files and folder completely hidden and encrypted. You can create storage vaults on any hard drive, USB memory device, and even on CDs and DVD's. SafeHouse Professional File Encryption also supports drag and drop so you can easily move files into these secured areas. Another unique feature found in the program is the ability to create a virtual smartcard. Slick. The process is very simple and it works with your standard USB drive. Once you've done it you can access any of your SafeHouse vaults without having to enter the passwords just by having the drive plugged in. The program is safe and secure and remarkably easy-to-use. I like it so much that it's not only a Pick, but I'm also making it a Dr. File Finder Favorite and in over 25 years of evaluating software there haven't been very many of those. So, if you're looking for a slick way to protect data, this may be the solution you need. Give it a try, I recommend it.
