RegPad is a free and useful gui based .reg file editor and viewer RegPad is a free and useful gui based .reg file editor and viewer.

Features include fast, cancellable (via ESC key,) .reg file loading (via .reg file assocation, command line parameter, file manager drag-n-drop, or menu item selection), registry importing (0.1.1 will optionally import sub-keys as well as values,) exporting to a registry "sandbox" or saving to a file, an optional tabbed interface, an optional browser-like interface, several types of value views (Details, Icons, List, Small icons, and Tiles, as non-grouped, Key/Value grouped, or Sections grouped), drag-n-drop (cut or copy) of keys and values (across open files via the tab bar,) several types of tool bars (menu, standard, data, favorites, and tools,) a modifiable favorites and tools lists.

The user interface icons and menu text strings are also completely configurable. The icons are loaded from a user-specified directory. The menu text strings are loaded from the app's .ini file. Comments in the .ini explain what sections are used for what menu, what's configurable and what's not.

Although there is no feature to directly merge an opened file's contents with the registry, it is easy enough for you to configure your own tool menu item to have RegEdit merge the saved file for you. This feature will eventually become a part of RegPad but not until it has been tested more thoroughly and more bugs have been squashed.

RegPad is currently on hold due to the lack of interest by its original designer. If you're interested in seeing the app evolve and are willing to participate in testing, please feel free to send me an email. Or if you'd just like to report a repeatable bug that you found.

RegPad has been tested on 2K and XP and is still a work-in-progress, so is certain to contain bugs. But thanks to Bernhard Sch tz, a number of bugs have already been eliminated.

No registry entries are made (unless you export to the registry sandbox,) so just delete the RegPad main directory to un-install.

What's New in This Release:

Added the ability to import a key's sub-keys from the registry in addtion to its values

Added the ability to have only one instance of the app running (command line runs will open up a new tab in the existing instance's main window)

The recent files list is now properly adjusted when it is holding the maximum number of files and a file not in the list is opened

The recent files list is now properly adjusted so that the latest opened file is the first in the list

EXPAND_SZ and MULTI_SZ values are now properly read from ANSI formatted files

Searches starting from a given key now find matching strings within that key's values

Searches now find matching strings within MULTI_SZ values

Continuously pressing the F3 key during a search no longer crashes the app

Registry imported default values are now imported correctly

Registry importd MULTI_SZ values are now imported correctly

Exiting the app while it's minimized will no longer cause the app to open up minimized on a subsequent run

Exiting the app while it's maximized will no longer cause the app to open up maximized on a subsequent run

Switching between Hex and Decimal displays when editing a DWORD value will now correctly convert the existing value as necessary

Several tool bar buttons are now correctly enabled when a file is loaded from the command line

The app now exits much faster on systems with .ini file update anti-virus scanning
