Step 1. Connect iPhone directly to an updated iTunes and restore it. DO NOT use the docking cradle. Instead, use a USB cable to connect your computer to iPhone.
Step 2. Download the appropriate file from our download center thru your membership.
If after downloading, the file ends with anything other than ''.zip'', rename the file to end with ''zip''. Please also refer to Troubleshooting on this topic.
Step 3. Unzip the file you've downloaded onto your desktop; make sure that both of the unzipped files end with ''.IPSW ''. The bigger file stays at your desktop for now, and follow the steps 4 & 5 for the ssmaller one. Please also refer to Troubleshooting on this topic.
Step 4. OSX: browse to /Library/iTunes/Device Support/
VISTA: Click Start, copy code below into search box, press enter:
XP: Clickstart, then run, then copy the code below into run box:
Code:
%appdata%\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete the folder called ''Device Support'' if there.
Step 5. Create new directory by the name ''Device Support''. Copy the downloaded and unzipped x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw into the new ''Device Support'' folder.
Steps 6-7-8-9-10-11: enter DFU mode (device Firmware Update). When doing so, your device does not load the OS prior to attempting restore. When in DFU mode, the device should have a blank screen as in switched off state, while iTunes shows it in recovery mode. If there is anything on the screen, then you're not in DFU mode yet. Here is how to get your device to DFU mode:
Step 7. Open iTunes, and connect iPhone to your computer.
Step 8. Press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
Step 9. After EXACTLY 10 seconds, release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until iTunes pops up with a message which says it discovered an iPhone in recovery mode.
Note: Hold down both buttons then release the Power button just prior to Apple logo appearance. If still holding both buttons down, and you see the Apple logo, that means you have been holding them down just a bit too long! If stuck at the Apple logo, hold the Power button to get back to Emergency Mode, and start back on Step 6 until DFU mode.
Step 10. Once iPhone in DFU and detected by iTunes, click on the Device in iTunes
WIN: Hold the SHIFT key on the keyboard, and click on Restore in iTunes.
MAC: Hold the OPTION key on the keyboard, and click on Restore iTunes.
Step 11. Browse to the larger file you left at the desktop after unzipping at Step 5 and select it. When iTunes extract the file and this takes about 1 complete hour.
Step 12. Once done, you have the option to ''restore the backup'' or ''set up as new device''. We recommend the first option but if you choose the latter one, but then after restoring the backup, iPhone does not function properly, you will need to repeat this entire process, but choosing ''set up as new device'' at the end, this time. Setting up new device implies no problems whatsoever are restored.
Voila! The process is completed.
