Video is the technology of electronically capturing, recording, processing, storing, transmitting, and reconstructing a sequence of still images representing scenes in motion. Referred to video, we can find video codecs, video players and video converters and so on.

Video Codecs

A video codec is a device or software that enables video compression and/or decompression for digital video. Before learning video codec, reader should have a general impression of video formats, so that they can use video codecs to encode or decode their video files.

Video in most of the publicly documented or standardized video compression formats can be created with multiple encoders made by different people. Many video codecs use common, standard video compression formats, which makes them compatible. For example, people can choose video codecs for windows media player.
