Android

Android is a mobile operating system running on the Linux kernel. It was initially developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance. It allows developers to write managed code in the Java language, controlling the device via Google-developed Java libraries.

Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. The Android SDK provides the tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications that run on Android-powered devices.

Android has released is latest version of 1.5 updates. There are several new features and UI updates included in the 1.5 update:

1. Ability to record and watch videos with the camcorder mode
2. Uploading videos to YouTube and pictures to Picasa directly from the phone
3. A new soft keyboard with an "Autocomplete" feature
4. Ability to automatically connect to a Bluetooth headset within a certain distance
5. New widgets and folders that can populate the desktop

Android SDK currently supported development platforms include x86-architecture computers running Linux (any modern desktop Linux distribution), Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later, Windows XP or Vista.
