No. Once installed, Spy Sweeper continually protects your system from spyware. You can manually sweep your computer at anytime by maximizing Spy Sweeper, choosing Sweep Now and clicking Start.
How do I update Spy Sweeper's definitions files?
Spy Sweeper automatically updates itself as needed when connected to the internet. You can manually update the application and/or the definitions by choosing Options and clicking either Update Program or Update Definitions .
How to Remove Internet Explorer Favorites Shield ?
After running Spy Sweeper, your Internet Explorer Favorites are protected by a "Favorites Shield". Whenever you add items to your Internet Explorer favorites list, Spy Sweeper will appear, asking you if you really meant to add those items. You can then confirm or remove the Favorites items just entered.
However, if you regularly add items to your Internet Explorer Favorites, this alert can get annoying. Thus, there is a way to turn off this shield:
1. Double-click the Spy Sweeper icon in your Windows taskbar. If it is not present, you can click "Spy Sweeper" in your "Programs" or "All Programs" menu.
2. Click the "Shields" button on the left.
3. Click the "Internet Explorer" button on top.
4. Uncheck "IE Favorites Shield".
How to Stop Automatically Checking For Updates ?
If you are on a dial-up connection to the Internet whereby downloading updates to software is a slow process, if you are concerned about privacy when upgrading software automatically, or for other reasons, you can stop Spy Sweeper from automatically checking for updates upon startup. However, if you perform this tweak, you should still regularly manually check for updates, as new adware and spyware are being developed all the time. You need the latest program and definition updates to combat newer threats.

How to Speed Up Scans By Searching Fewer Folders ?
You can perform a tweak whereby Spy Sweeper only scans folders that commonly get hit by spyware attacks. Though this may find the majority of infections on a machine, it won't find them all; however, if time is of the essence, you may want to consider this change, if only temporarily.
1. Double-click the Spy Sweeper icon in your Windows taskbar. If it is not present, you can click "Spy Sweeper" in your "Programs" or "All Programs" menu.
2. Click the "Options" button on the left.
3. Click the "Sweep Options" button on top.
4. Underneath "Where to Sweep", click the "Sweep Only Known Spyware Folders" radio button.
Even if you make this change, you should still periodically perform a scan through all folders on your system.
How to Delete Quarantined Items Sooner/Later ?
The Quarantine feature in Spy Sweeper lets you file away software, cookies, registry settings, etc. that it thinks may be spyware or adware so you can later examine them.
If you would like Spy Sweeper to remove items quicker, if you would like an extra month to determine whether or not to permanently delete quarantined items, or to prevent Spy Sweeper from ever cleaning the Quarantine without your user input, do the following:
1. Double-click the Spy Sweeper icon in your Windows taskbar. If it is not present, you can click "Spy Sweeper" in your "Programs" or "All Programs" menu.
2. Click the "Options" button on the left.
3. Click the "Program Options" button on top.
* To clear items sooner or quicker, click the pull-down to the right of "Automatically Delete Items in Quarantine More Than" and select either to clear items older than 7, 30, 60, or 90 days.
