SpeedUpMyPCSpeedUpMyPC FAQ - Speed Up System

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is SpeedUpMyPC Software?

A. The use of personal computers and the internet has become central to our daily lives. The user may make settings to suit his/her requirements. The Operating System, as well as the applications running on it, may generate their own system/user settings. Some applications may require a high degree of memory, CPU usage or hard drive space. All these different settings may make your system unstable and create problems of which the user may not be aware.

SpeedUpMyPC offers a great set of software tools to address these types of problems so that you can continue to use your computer efficiently, for optimum results. It makes possible maintenance on a range of functions, including Memory optimization, CPU Usage, Internet, Disk, File clean Up, and permanent deletion of files & folders, Privacy clean up, and Startup programs. An optimization bar informs you about the current status of the system.

You can free more memory, increase CPU usage to an application or simply scan for, and delete unnecessary files & folders.

Optimization

Q. What is Memory Optimization?

A. Some applications require more memory than average levels or some settings may affect the system and start creating several problems like:

  • System Crash
  • System Slow Down
  • Loss of Data

To overcome these problems, memory needs to be optimized. There is an option to get more RAM when the usage of physical memory exceeds a certain percentage. You can choose and adjust this percentage. You are also able to monitor real and recent time memory usage per minute / hour.

Q. How can the CPU be optimized?

A. Current CPU usage time is monitored and the Application Booster button boosts up to provide maximum priority to the specific application. The CPU screen also shows details about your CPU and its current frequency.

As in Memory Optimization, you have a facility to monitor CPU usage per minute / hour.

Q. What kind of problems are faced when using Internet?

A. In this information hungry world, everybody wants the latest information at the earliest opportunity so the connectivity can be a problem at peak periods. At these times your connection’s speed may not be fast enough. This software monitors bandwidth usage and optimizes your Internet connection and browser to maximize the performance given the type of connection. It also displays the current download speed and a continuous updating graph of bandwidth usage against time.

Q. Which connection tools are used for Internet usage?

A. The connection tools available are Analog Modem, Cable Modem, ISDN, DSL, Ethernet LAN, Satellite and Fixed Connections.

Q. Why does the system take longer to boot?

A. When you boot up your system, some applications get started automatically. The more applications, the more resource is used and this increases boot up time. SpeedUpMyPC provides you the current list of applications loading at startup, from which you can remove - or add more - as you wish.

Q. What is the Optimization Level Bar and what does it show?

A. The Optimization Level Bar on the top right corner of the screen displays the amount of optimization carried out. It will be Red if none of the options have been taken care of.

  • No Action has been taken so far in all areas - Short Red Bar
  • Some areas have been taken care of - Yellow Bar
  • All the areas have been taken care of - Green Bar

  • These colors change according to the level of optimization. To have the Green Bar on, you have to take action. You may choose an area or you can go for all the areas defined if needed, depending on the condition of your computer.

    Overview

    Q. Overview screen displays areas in Red color - Why?

    A. This option displays all the areas and the date of the last optimization. If none of the areas have been taken care of, the bar will be Red.

    Q. Which areas are scanned and how do I know?

    A. The Overview displays all the areas and the date of the last optimization. Any areas marked in Red, require your attention.

  • Memory - More memory is freed in order to be allocated to a particular application.
  • CPU - Every application is allocated adequate priority but the booster can provide highest priority for the application that is most important to you.
  • Internet - Maximum bandwidth availability gives a better connection to the user.
  • File Clean Up - All the temporary and junk files are found and deleted.
  • Privacy Clean Up - Deletion of temporary internet files, cookies and clearing of the history list.

  • The software displays the optimization level report and also tells you whether you should take action.

    Clean up

    What is Clean Up?

    A. Files are created, used, copied or backed up, then frequently forgotten. Files are also created for temporary use only. While browsing, some files are downloaded on purpose but some files are downloaded without your knowledge. All these files take valuable disk space or may interfere in your privacy by keeping track of your computer work and habits. For this reason the clean up operation scans for these files/ folders and then you can remove them permanently through the File Shredder option. Else you can send them to the recycle bin, from where you can restore them later if required.

    Q. What are unnecessary files?

    A. The Clean Up option of SpeedUpMyPC identifies unnecessary files / folders and makes a list, which you can go through. These files / folders may be temporary / junk files. The File Shredder option will delete these files permanently.

    Q. How does File Shredder work?

    A. File Shredder opens a file browser to select files/folders. You can add files / folders separately and then delete them permanently.

    Q. What is the Privacy problem and how is it solved?

    A. Internet browsing is entertaining and educative but it can also create problems. Some files get downloaded while you are browsing. These files may have been sent by certain websites to spy on your computer. They permit external users to upload files without your knowledge or permission. This practice is frequent and widespread. It also means that your privacy has been compromised. You can scan for objects from the following list or perform a complete scan.

Visited Internet History - A link to each page visited during a predefined period leading up to the current day is stored under Internet history. This list can be permanently removed.

Address Bar drop down URL list - These consist of all the pages in the drop down list of the address bar. It deletes all the URLs in the address bar of Internet Explorer.

Auto Complete Data List - Scans for all the data stored while browsing by Internet Explorer. This deletes all the entries typed into the forms, which are recalled after a few letters of the word are typed.

Temporary Files and Folders - These files and folders are used during application installs. It scans all temporary files and folders, which are saved by Windows in its temporary folder.

Find Files List - It scans for the list of items which you have recently accessed. This prevents others from viewing your personal files, like *.doc, *.bmp.

Downloaded Program Files - It scans the folder, where Internet Explorer stores downloaded ActiveX and Java Applets from the Web. This option erases the contents of this folder.

Firefox History and Typed URLs - A link to each page visited during a predefined period leading up to the current day is stored under Internet history. This list can be cleared permanently.

Windows Recent Files List - It scans for the list of items which you have recently accessed. This prevents others from viewing your personal files.

Find Computer List - It scans the list of computer names that you have most recently accessed over the network. This list can be erased.
