INI to Registry

A utility for Windows which reads the contents of any INI file and loads them into the registry
INI to Registry was developed to allow users with Win 95/NT versions of Search and Replace to upgrade their software to versions greater than 2.41 without losing their history.. Although it is no longer needed for Search and Replace upgrades, INI to Registry works well with any program that relies on INI files.

INI2REG is written in C++ using the MFC(Microsoft
Foundation Classes) v4.00. The code comes with a Project Workspace for the Microsoft Visual C++ compiler, but can be used with any compiler (such as Symantec, Watcom or Borlan) which supports the MFC.

The purpose for such an application is to migrate existing applications from 16-bit Windows (most of which used INI files to save user settings) to the 32-bit Windows (Windows 95 and NT) registry.

Main features of INI to Registry:

  • Initializing settings and getting user input
  • Reading the contents of an INI file in memory (which makes use of C++ templates and exception handling),
  • Writing the contents of the INI file to the path in the Windows 95/98/ME NT/2000 registry specified by the user.
