Registry Mechanic - Optimize Your System |
Registry Mechanic's Optimize Your System function applies a set of tweaks and patches to the Windows Registry which are designed to optimize and improve system performance. These tweaks and patches can improve Windows startup and shut down speeds, as well as the handling of hung processes and process termination.
|
The Optimize Your System / Reset Optimization button alternates between applying this set of tweaks and patches to the registry and reverting these back to recommended default values.
- To optimize your system, click the Optimize Your System button on the Main Status screen. The tweaks and patches are applied to the registry and the button changes to Reset Optimization.
- To revert these registry changes to their original condition, click the Reset Optimization button. The optimized tweaks and patches are rolled back to recommended default values and the button switches back to Optimize Your System.

What is optimized?
The following changes are implemented upon clicking the "Optimize Your System" button:
Windows is forced to unload DLLs from memory
- Windows Explorer caches Dynamic-Link Libraries (DLLs) in memory for a period of time after the application using them has been closed. This can be an inefficient use of memory on low memory systems, and may cause problems or delays for programmers developing with Windows DLL files.
The Menu Show Delay is reduced
- Windows normally delays menus before they are displayed. For regular users, this delay can be annoying. When this tweak is applied, the delay time is lowered. When this tweak is applied, this delay time is reduced.
Hung applications are ended automatically
- When this tweak is applied, it will force Windows to shut down immediately, ending all tasks without attempting to safely close those that have hung, which can cause delays.
The Windows Prefetcher Service is optimized
- The Windows XP Prefetcher component helps to shorten the amount of time it takes to start programs by fetching and storing commonly used files. When this tweak is applied, the service and cache are adjusted for optimum system performance.
Windows XP shut down period is reduced
- Additional tweaks are applied that can reduce the time required for Windows XP to shut down.
