Security Options
Overwrite all bytes of file with character zeros
This option will cause Privacy Eraser Pro to write character zeros to the entire file.
Overwrite all bytes of file with character ones
This option will cause Privacy Eraser Pro to write character ones to the entire file.
Overwrite all bytes of file with random numbers
This option will cause Privacy Eraser Pro to write random numbers to the entire file.
Overwrite times
This option sets the number of times to use the above erasing methods on the file.
Each overwrite above represents one pass of erasing, combined each overwrite option would actually be 3 overwrites. The US Department of Defense recommends 3 overwrites, NSA recommends 7 overwrites. So if you have checked all overwrite options, this number should be considered times 1 or 3 (i.e. 1 would actually be 3 passes with different overwrite methods).
Reset file size to zero bytes
This option will cause Privacy Eraser Pro to reset the file size to zero length.
Scramble file/folder name
This option will cause Privacy Eraser Pro to rename the file/folder name to random name before delete it. For example, the rename of "abc.txt" would be to "F9745CD89Q8.tmp".
Important Note: The more times you set to overwrites the file, the longer the erasing cycle will take. Usually, the default 1 times (3 passes) is enough.
Privacy Eraser Pro implements the US Department of Defense DOD 5220.22-M and NSA clearing and sanitizing standard, to gives you confidence that once deleted with Privacy Eraser Pro, your file data is gone forever and can not be recovered. |
