Foxwoods Announces Agreement With Apple For A Retail Presence
Updated Jul.20,2007
Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand, the partner for its expansion, have cut a deal to open a store and kiosk selling Apple products.
To kick off the new relationship, an Apple iPhone or $500 in bonus slot play will be awarded every 10 minutes between 6-9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays all summer.
This fall, Foxwoods will open the kiosk in its retail concourse. Next May, when the $700 million MGM Grand at Foxwoods opens its doors, patrons will be able to shop at an Apple outlet that sells iPods, Apple TV's, computers and other equipment. But right now iPhones are being sold out of the wampum store, said Foxwoods spokesman Saverio Mancini.
The arrangement with Apple is specifically for Foxwoods to be an authorized “re-seller,” meaning the company must buy the products from Apple and then sell them, he said.
Atlantic City's Caesar's casino has a similar arrangement with Apple, Mancini noted.
“We're thrilled to develop this affiliation at the brink of a very exciting time for both Foxwoods and Apple,” said John O'Brien, president of Foxwoods. “This is a preview of what our guests can expect as we continue to evolve in our offerings, from the latest technology to the world-class MGM Grand at Foxwoods opening next spring.”
Apple's iPhone combines a phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls and an Internet communications device with desktop, e-mail, web-browsing, searching and maps into one lightweight handheld device. They can cost $499 or $599.
Earlier this year, Apple premiered its $299 Apple TV, a way to wirelessly play iTunes content from a Mac or PC on a widescreen TV. Movies, TV shows, music, photos and podcasts can all be displayed using Apple TV. The Apple TV's hard drive is like a DVD player with the ability to store up to 50 hours of video, 9,000 songs, 25,000 photos or a combination of all.
