Strength:
The program is a special designed program for parents to guard their kids—through these settings, parents could control online time, adult websites forbidden and the like. With this tool, kids would probably not logon pornographic websites. It does help parents a lot.
Weakness:
This interface lacks “minimum” button which is a little inconvenient for users.
Benefits
With amazing development of high-tech, more and more families own over one PC, thus causes more kids learn computer skills at an earlier age than before. As a saying goes, “every coin has two sides”, this phenomenon can be seen as two sides. The good is that they master good computer skills; the bad is that there are many attractive things (including ill ones) on the Internet, which would lead them touch unhealthy affairs, as a result, they may be lured and addicted to them. It’s no good for them to grow up and prevent them from learning.
The publisher of ChildWebGuardian might consider the problems above, so this program was developed for parents who are concerned or enlaced by such related problems. Through ChildWebGuardian, we can set some prevention from porno, drug, alcohol, casino and gambling websites and so on. It is very considerate for parents to set these functions (at first, I imagined there may only contain porno prevention).
Parents can also set online time that could reduce the addiction or inclination to surf Internet. By setting this function, kids wouldn’t surf Internet too much, because if they surf at forbidden hours, brower would close.
There are other functions that trace and record which websites a family members have logged. Parents could supervise kids from it.
Setup
The installation is easy and straightforward; yet please note one thing: set a password and then you would not set it on the interface. There is no adware, spyware or malware in it, it’s 100% clean. After installation, we can use it immediately without reboot.
ChildWebGuardian provides a shortcut to uninstall. Should you want to remove this tool, the “Uninstall” did remove the program automatically.
Interface
The interface is in gray and there are several bars on left. There are a few options have been selected default and leave others for users to set. For instance, we can enable or disenable “exclude super users”. There is a deactivation key set by users—we can choose one of default hot key.
The main functions are the bars on left of the interface: Forbidden words, Popup killers, Allowed time, URL black list, URL white list, and URL log. Every bar is easy yet powerful enough.
System Requirements
ChildWebGuardian is a universal program running on almost each Windows operating systems (from Windows 95 to the latest OS Vista). This program can be called a lightweight tool, for its size is mere 1,314KB, which is an ignored tool when it’s on. There are no other requirements for the peripheral. Your IE browser, however, is required above 5.0--it is said that there is an internal buffer bug with IE5.0.
Conclusion
This is a useful program to supervise kids of their online activities. More and more children and teenagers are proven that they are addicted to online games, or allured by unhealthy sites. Such problems are severe to their psychologies—if they are misled by the unhealthy information, there may be dark psychological problems. So, it is a solution to this problem. Actually, the problem cannot solved only by a tool, the more functions rely on parents; please don’t rely on the tool too much, for it can be removed!
