  • Trouble Shooting for Midi2Wav Recorder

    1. I get no sound on playback after recording.

It means that silence is recorded in the WAV file (the average volume is less than -80 dB).

If Built-In Mixer is used but recording is not tested you should test the recording first.

If Midi2Wav Recorder can not record any MIDI sound using Built-In Mixer then you should adjust your sound card mixer yourself.

To do that, please follow the instructions listed below:

    1. Open menu Selecting Devices and Test Recording, select the first MIDI Output and Wave Input devices in the drop-down lists. Press Select Devices button.

    2. Uncheck Use Built-In Mixer item.

    3. Open Windows Volume Control Mixer or double click the speaker icon in the tray. The tray is the clock area of your Windows computer.

    4. In Volume Control dialog check the Mute check-box for Microphone sliders

    5. In Volume Control dialog select Options and Properties. Click Recording. Then check all check-boxes in Show the following volume controls list. Press OK.

    6. Along the bottom of Recording Control dialog will be Select check-boxes. Uncheck all of them if it is possible or check the left one.

    7. Adjust all mixer's sliders to max.

    8. Arrange your workspace so you can see Midi2Wav window and Recording Control dialog.

    9. In Midi2Wav window open Midi file and press Record.

    10. Check the left Select check-box in Recording Control mixer, then the next one and so on, until a wave signal appears in Midi2Wav window .

    11. Close Mixer window. Now you can use Midi2Wav Recorder.

    2. My recorded Wav file is too soft.

-- The recording is too soft

If the recording seems too soft, increase the MIDI playback volume with the MIDI Vol slider.

If the MIDI Vol slider is set to maximum, increase the record level with the Rec Level slider(s).

    Repeat recording.

    3. The recording is too loud.

If the recording seems too load (without clipping), reduce MIDI playback volume and repeat recording.

    4. Statistics field includes Clipping warning.

Reduce record level with Rec Level slider(s) and repeat recording.

If you need to reduce the rec level beneath the middle of slider range, try to avoid clipping by reducing the MIDI playback volume with MIDI Vol slider.

    5. Distortion of recorded melody, clicks, pops.

Check the clipping warning. If the Statistic field contain this warning, see previous item.

Otherwise, it's possible the free resources of your system are not enough for full-featured operating.

In this case try to disable visual controls option and repeat recording.

To disable visual controls: Unselect View Signal command from Wave menu to disable this option.

    6. My MIDI-Out (Wave-In) device cannot be opened.

The MIDI Output Device is already in use or The Wave Input Device is already in use.

Make sure another application do not use specified device.

Some sound cards use Wave Synthesis for playing MIDI. In this case you'll receive the message that another device is already playing WAVE.

In this case, select another MIDI Output device and try again.

If it is not possible, select another Wave Input device and try again.

7/8. Mic record checkbox is disabled.

Mic Record is disabled or Rec Level slider(s) is(are) disabled

Midi2Wav disables this options when automatic mixer adjusting is not possible for specified Wave In device.

We recommend to select another Wave In device.

If it is impossible, try to use mixer that came with your card or Window mixer.

To enable (disable) microphone with the Windows mixer:
      1. Click on Start / Programs/ Accessories / Entertainment / Volume Control
      2. Select Properties from the Options menu in the mixer and click on the Recording button in the "Adjust volume for..." box. Then check the mic in “Show the following volume controls “ list, and click OK
      3. Check (unchek) mic box in Recording Control dialog and adjust the slider.

To adjust Record level with the Windows mixer:
      1. Click on Start / Programs/ Accessories / Entertainment / Volume Control
      2. Select Properties from the Options menu in the mixer and click on the Recording button in the "Adjust volume for..." box. Click OK
      3. If there is MIDI (Synthesizer) box in Recording Control dialog, check it, and adjust the slider, otherwise check Mixed Output box and adjust slider.

We have considered the most frequent configurations of mixer. If you have any problem with mic switching or record level adjusting , refer to your sound card documentation.

    9. MIDI Vol slider is disabled.

Midi2Wav disables this options when automatic mixer adjusting is not possible for specified MIDI Out device.

We recommend to select another MIDI In device.

If it is impossible, try to use mixer that came with your card or Window mixer.

To do this with the Windows mixer:
      1. Click on Start / Programs/ Accessories / Entertainment / Volume Control
      2. Find Synthesizer (or Synth or MIDI) field and set its slider to max.

    10. Some buttons in New Waveform dialog are disabled. An Item of New Waveform menu is grayed.

In this case some of waveform formats is not available for recording. For example, if Stereo button is disabled, you can record mono sound only.

But it is true only for current Wave Input Device. Close New Waveform dialog, select another Wave Input device and try again.

    11. MIDI Tracks Viewer is disabled.

This option is disabled when you are using MIDI file whose format is another than #1 (MIDI 1).

This file may be used only for playback (and converting to Wave), but you cannot change its MIDI track settings.
