In Merlin you can work on your project in four different views. Each, offering you project information from a different point of view.

The Activities View

The Activities View - In the Activity view you put your project together. In a comprehensive Gantt chart, which offers several view options, you have a complete overview of your activities in the planning process and in the actual progress.

The Netplan View

The Netplan View - The Netplan view is perfect to display the logical relationship between activities. You can optionally display the critical path and have other options.

The Utilization View

The Utilization View - The Utilization view provides you at a glance information that shows which resources are perfectly utilized, which ones are over utilized and which ones have free capacities. Expanding a row will switch the bar to display a significant histogram. Once each resource is expanded, Merlin provides a list of all the assignments the respective resource is working on.

Network-based Collaborative Project Management
Collaborate with others on the same project file over the LAN or WAN with a single mouse click.

Access Control for Users and User Groups
Resources can be either single Users or grouped into Resource Groups both of which can be assigned to activities and/or given specific access rights.

Dynamic Planning Mode
Activities which haven't started yet can be automatically moved to the current date. This is great news for devotees of Agile Project Management.

Bi-directional Synchronization with iCal
Changes in Merlin are reflected in iCal and vice versa. You can also sync specific resources in a separate calendar.

Enhanced Financial and Cost Models
You can now compare planned vs. actual costs with the ability to determine accruals per cost entry.

The Elements

The Elements

From the first Project vison right up to the Post Mortem-Meeting, Merlin offers you several practical information. These different types of information can be attached to a special activity, a phase or to the entire project. Compare this to a file that you would attach to an email. Similarly, Merlin attaches the Elements to an activity or other information to your project. These are perfectly saved and can be easily located at any time throughout the project.

The following Elements have been integrated: Checklists, Events, Files, Information, Issues, Risks.

Using Leopard's Quick Look, you can view and explore your Merlin 2.5 files with with a single click. Preview multiple files without launching Merlin and locate the exact file you are looking for.

Publish & Collaborate
Project management is a collaborative effort; now Merlin 2.5 enables project managers to work together to get real-time feedback on their projects. You can do this over a local area network but also over the Internet. It doesn't matter if you are running Tiger or Leopard, it just works!

Mail
Drag & drop mails out of Mail.app onto any project, group or activity. A new element will be created instantly giving you access to important messages within your project.

Time Machine
Automatic backup, built right into your Mac. Never worry about losing a file again. Time Machine stores Merlin project files automatically on an external hard drive, personal file sharing volume, or Mac OS X Server. If you need to restore a file, just go to the finder and start Time Machine.

iChat
Share any Merlin 2.5 file using iChat video conference. Keep your stake holders up to date and your personal connection with your team when you are not in the office. Save time and provide clear, concise communication.

Spaces
Merlin's multiple window support helps you organize your projects into separate spaces or see one project with multiple windows simultaneously.
