Adding Folders to a User-defined Custom Wash Item

Depending on your selections, adding a folder to a user-defined Custom Wash Item deletes the folder or specific files within the folder each time you run a wash. You may want to use this feature when a program you use creates a folder that gets very large over time or that contains files you do not want to keep. Be sure that the program will re-create any deleted files or folders and that deleting them is not a problem.

Step Introduction icon To add a folder to a user-defined Custom Wash Item:

  1. Select the Add Folders Containing Multiple Files to Wash option.
  2. Click Next.
  3. In the Step 1 panel, navigate to the folder you want.
  4. In the Step 2 panel, select the options you want to use:
    • If root folder is empty, then remove the folder—Select this if you want Window Washer to delete the top-level folder you selected.
    • Include subfolders—Select this if you want Window Washer to wash the same files from each subfolder under the selected folder.
    • If subfolder is empty, then delete the folder—Select this if you want Window Washer to delete empty subfolders under the selected folder.
    • Change default mask wildcard—By default, Window Washer deletes all files in the selected folder. If you want to delete only files with a specific file extension, for example .log, change the mask to *.log.
  5. Click Add.
    • The folder name displays in the Step 3 panel.
    • If you select a system folder, Window Washer will warn you about deleting files from system folders. Be sure that you want to delete the file or folder before saying Yes to this message.
    • To remove a folder from the list of folders to wash, select the folder and click Remove.
    • To remove all folders from the list of folders to wash, click Remove All.
  6. Repeat steps 4 through 6 until you have added all of the folders you want to wash using this Custom Wash Item.
  7. Click Next to continue.
  8. When the Completion window displays, click Finished.
