Understanding Performance Issues

Computer performance issues take many forms depending on how you use your computer. The following information is not meant to be a complete discussion of all computer performance issues. We hope that it will acquaint you with some of the performance issues that Window Washer can address for you.

Windows stores many files on your computer without you being aware of them. Many files are useful, and even required, for your computer to operate properly. Other files, however, are not necessary and take up valuable space on your hard drive. Even with today's large hard drives, storing many potentially large, unnecessary files can impair your computer's performance.

When combined, many small files, like cookies and recently used file lists, may take up a lot of space on your hard drive. Windows keeps a list of all files on your computer and uses that list each time you open or search for files. The longer the list, the longer it can take to open or search for files. If you do not remove these files, your computer may perform more slowly over time.

You can set up Window Washer to wash away (delete) these unnecessary files.
