Introduction and Startup > Start-up and shut-down operations
Start-up and shut-down operationsSpy Sweeper runs automatically when Windows starts (providing you did not turn off the Load Spy Sweeper at Windows startup option during a custom installation). Look for the Spy Sweeper icon in the Windows system tray in the lower-right corner of your screen. This icon indicates that Spy Sweeper is running and actively protecting your computer.

Note: If you turned off the Load Spy Sweeper at Windows startup option during a custom installation or in the Options/Program tab, you must manually start Spy Sweeper by double-clicking the Spy Sweeper icon on your computer desktop or selecting it through the Windows Start Menu (select All Programs > Webroot > Spy Sweeper >Spy Sweeper). This also opens the Spy Sweeper Main window and Home panel.
While Spy Sweeper is running, it protects your computer by:
• Sweeping for potential threats on a schedule or on demand. See Sweeps and the Quarantine.
• Shielding against potential threats at all times. See Shields.
