Working with the StuffIt User Interface
The goal of the StuffIt application interface is to provide you with a comfortable and familiar way to browse the contents of an archive. The other important goal of the interface is to present the other archiving tools that StuffIt offers.
The application’s interface contains 6 key areas; a menu bar, a tool bar, a side bar, an upper right area, a lower right area, and a status bar:

Menu Bar: The menu bar is always displayed while the application is running. It cannot be turned off
Toolbar: The tool bar can be turned on and off using the Toolbar menu item in the View menu. The buttons at the far left of tool bar are click buttons used to perform the labeled action. The next set of buttons are designed to function as radio buttons, meaning only one can be active at a time. The button, when clicked, highlights to indicate that its function is now active. The first set of radio buttons is used to switch the functionality of the left side bar. The second set of radio buttons is independent of the first and is used to switch the functionality of the upper right window.
Left Side Bar: The left side bar is designed to house functionality that compliments the task of creating or viewing an archive. It can be used to display ArchiveSearch, ArchiveInfo, a Folder Tree view, a view the Catalogs all files on the system that can be opened with StuffIt, and (when the application is in Standard Mode) an upsell message for StuffIt Deluxe. The function of this area can be switched via radio mode buttons in the toolbar.
Lower Right Window: The function of the lower right window depends on the current state of the left panel. The user cannot switch it independently.
