Using Drag and Drop

Drag and Drop to Expand

The easiest way to expand archives and encoded files with the StuffIt application is to "Drag and Drop" the file you want to decompress onto the Expand drop area in the StuffIt application.

To Expand an archive:

1. Use the "Folders" tab to select the folder that contains the archive you want to open.

2. Select the archive you want to expand in the "Folder Contents" tab and drag it to the "Expand" drop area. Note: You can also drag and drop from a Windows Explorer folder.

You can also use drag and drop to view the contents of an archive, or open it to add new files.

To View the Contents of an archive:

1. Use the "Folders" tab to select the folder that contains the archive you want to look inside.

2. Select the archive you want to view in the "Folder Contents" tab and drag it to the "View" drop area.

Drag and Drop to Compress

Drag and drop can also be used to create archives.

To Compress files into an archive:

1. Use the "Folders" tab to select the folder that contains the files you want to compress.

2. Select the files you want to view in the "Folder Contents" tab and drag them to the Compress drop area. You can drag and drop your files onto the StuffIt X drop area to create .sitx archives, or onto the Zip drop area to create .zip archives. Note: You can also drag and drop directly from a Windows Explorer folder.

Note: If you want to view the contents of the archive you have just created, click the "View Archive" button on the Drag and Drop caption bar.

Password Protection: When you create an archive using the compress drop area, you can turn password protection on or off by clicking the password button in the Drop Area caption bar.

Mailing the archive: You can add the archive you just created to an email message by clicking the Email button in the Drop Area caption bar.
