Privacy Guardian Quick Start Guide

Privacy Guardian is a safe and easy-to-use privacy protection tool that securely deletes online Internet tracks and program activity records that are stored in your browser and other hidden files on your computer.


This Quick Start Guide is designed to get you started using Privacy Guardian immediately. When Privacy Guardian starts, the Main Status screen displays. From this screen, you can start cleaning and removing potentially sensitive Internet track and program history information from your computer, 'bleach' free space on your drives and render specific sensitive files unrecoverable by standard file recovery methods.

Main Status screen


Select an Action


This section provides immediate access to the main functions of Privacy Guardian. Clicking these buttons does the following actions:


Displays the Privacy Scan screen, where you can selectively clean your system of sensitive data stored by Internet browsers, Microsoft Office, Windows Media Player and other third party software, as well as bleaching all remaining free space available on your drive.

Displays the Shred Files screen, where you can shred and delete individual files, as well as the contents of the Windows Recycle Bin, rendering all selected files unrecoverable.

Displays the Settings screen, where you can alter Privacy Guardian's functionality, behavior, language settings and logging activities.


System Status


This section of the Main Status screen displays information on the current product version, the plugin file version, the number of plugins available and if updates are available. This section also displays information on when the last scan was conducted and the current status of your Privacy Guardian subscription.


Navigation


Clicking these buttons on the left of the product interface does the following actions:


Displays the Main Status screen, where you can initiate a selective clean of your computer system to remove sensitive information stored by Internet and other applications, shred and delete files to render them unrecoverable, and access a range of settings that tweak Privacy Guardian's functionality and behavior.

Displays the Privacy Scan screen, where you can selectively clean your system of sensitive data stored by Internet browsers, Microsoft Office, Windows Media Player and other third party software, as well as bleaching all remaining free space available on your drive.

Displays the Shred Files screen, where you can shred and delete individual files, as well as the contents of the Windows Recycle Bin, rendering all selected files unrecoverable.

Displays the Settings screen, where you can alter Privacy Guardian's functionality, behavior, language settings and logging activities.

Displays the About screen, where you can view more information about your current installation and version of Privacy Guardian. Note: This button is only visible while Privacy Guardian is either registered or activated.


Smart Update


The Smart Update function can be initiated at any time by clicking Smart Update at the top of the product interface. Please be aware that the main Privacy Guardian application closes temporarily while updates are downloading and being implemented. Privacy Guardian restarts immediately once this process is complete. Note: Full Smart Update capabilities are only available to registered users and activated Retail versions of Privacy Guardian.


Help menu


The Help menu provides access to this Quick Start Guide, as well as relevant Privacy Guardian pages on the PC Tools web site and the product About screen.
