More Browsers - GetRight Configuration

A variety of other web browsers are supported by GetRight.

Remember that any web browser will work with GetRight's Clipboard monitoring.  Just right click a link in your web browser, and pick the menu for copying the URL to the clipboard.  That will trigger GetRight and is a good "backup" method to quickly get any download into GetRight.

NOTE:  If you change any of these values, you will need to close and restart the web browser for it to work properly.

Firefox:  The best monitoring for Firefox is an add-on you can download here:  www.flashgot.net

Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape 6.x (and higher) use a Plugin for click monitoring.  The plugin method has been around for quite a few years, but has some real quirks, so I kept hoping a better way would be added into these other browsers--but it hasn't, so finally this plugin is built into GetRight instead of an extra file to download.

If you do not have JavaScript turned on, you've got to click "Back" in your browser after every file is caught to go return and continue browsing.  A message will be shown in your browser saying this.  (If you do have JavaScript turned on, the message may flash for an instant, but your browser should return to the page automatically.)
The types (MIME types) that GetRight will download are built into the Plug-In DLL. Unlike the monitoring for other browsers, you can't as easily control what types are downloaded or change them yourselves.
The types that are built into the DLL are EXE, ZIP, RAR, and MP3.
There's no way for the plugin to say "NO".   Browsers Always send the types to this plugin...so SHIFT to ignore a click or CTRL+ALT to catch any click don't work as they do with the other click-monitoring methods. Plus the browsers all open a "page" to show the plugin (which says that GetRight took over the download)--so you always have to go Back a page after it catches a click.  This can cause problems using the mail clients included with these browsers too...right click any attachments and choose the "Save To Disk" option.
These are both related to how the whole plugin system was designed many years ago.  Hopefully these browsers will add more ways to do click monitoring, or have extras like the DownloadWith add-on ( http://downloadwith.mozdev.org/ )
More information about these plugins may be found at www.getright.com/opera.html

Opera can be set to send the URL to another program for different types of files.  This adds the settings so GetRight will be sent the download for the same file types as the Plugin above.  Some of the same quirks apply here, mostly not being able to use the SHIFT and CTRL+ALT keys.  You won't have to click "Back" like the plugin, so it is an improvement!  For this one, you can change and add more of these settings in the Opera preferences, on the File Types page using the ones GetRight adds as a guide (look at application/octet-stream for an example).

Netscape 4.x uses the same method GetRight has used for many years (back when Netscape 4.x was brand new!)  It works well for people still using this browser.  GetRight will be automatically triggered by Netscape to download the file types setup on the Types & Options config page.
