About Access Password Recovery Master

Access Password Recovery Master is the program that displays passwords for the MS Access database files (*.MDB) as well as user-level passwords stored in the workgroup information files (*.MDW).


System Requirements

The program runs under Windows 9x / ME / NT / 2000 / XP / 2003 and supports MS Access 97 / 2000 / XP / 2003.

Main window

The main window of the program containes two tabs having the following titles:
  • MDB Files Passwords - displayes the passwords for the MDB files;
  • User-level Passwords - displayes the names of the Access users and their passwords.
When the program starts, it tries to find recent MDB files opened in the Access by scaning the system registry. If the found file is protected with a password, the program shows it in its main window, on the first tab. On the second tab the program shows the names of the Access users and their passwords retrieved from the MDW file. So, when running the program you can see all the information retrieved.

Lists with passwords, located on the tabs are sortable; you just need to click on the column header and the items will be sorted (like the Windows Explorer). Clicking again on the same column header will toggle the sort order and re-sort the items according to the column header. The sort order is shown by means of a small triangle on the header itself.

With a help of the program menu "File" you can execute the following operations:

  • Refresh - refreshes the information;
  • Save All... - saves all information retrieved into formatted text file;
  • Open file... - opens the MDB or MDW file and recovers the password;
  • Exit - exits from the program.


MDB Files Passwords

The MDB Files Passwords tab displays the passwords for the MDB files. The program automatically recovers the passwords for the files recently opened in Access. To recover passwords for other MDB files you need to click on the "Open MDB file..." button and point to the password protected MDB file.

Buttons located on the tab enable to commit the following operations:

  • Copy to clipboard - enables to copy into clipboard the information retrieved.
  • Open MDB file… - opens the password protected MDB file and recovers the password.
  • Save as… - enables to store the information in the formatted text file.
Copying into cliboard can be also done by means of pop-up menu which appears when you click the right mouse button on any of the selected items in the list.


User-level Passwords

The User-level Passwords tab shows the names of the Access users and their passwords. By default the program automatically recovers the user-level passwords from the MDW file registered with Access. To recover passwords stored in other MDW files you need to click on the "Open MDW file..." button and point to the MDW file.

Buttons located on this tab enable you to perform the following operations:

  • Copy to clipboard - copies into clipboard the information retrieved;
  • Open MDW file... - opens the secure database file MDW and recovers user-level passwords;
  • Save as… - stores all information from the tab in the formatted text file.
The information retrieved can be copyed to clipboard by means of pop-up menu which appears when you click the right mouse button on any of the selected items in the list.


Setting the Access Password

The access password uses to prevent unauthorized program running. To open the "Set Access Password" dialog select File > Set Access Password from the program menu.

To set the access password you have to enter a new password and confirm it by re-entering it in the confirmation field.

It's important to remember that the access password is case-sensitive. It means that the program considers words that have the same letters but in different letter case to be two different words. For example: PASSWORD, password, and PASSword are all three different words.

To remove the current password leave the password entering fields blank and click OK button.

If you have set the access password, the next time you run the program you will be shown the following window:

Just type your current password in the password line and click OK button.
