Printer Activity Monitor, by Red Line Software is a slick tool for keeping track of the activity on all of the printers used in your company. While testing it out I monitored the usage of three printers in my office and I was impressed with the results. The program gave me the power to monitor the usage of each printer and even show me which documents were printed on which printer. The program itself is very easy-to-use and only takes minutes to set up. There are actually two programs, one that does the real monitoring and another that can create reports and so on.

Printer Activity Monitor is a good way to save some money by watching how your printers are used. The program keeps a nice database that show which document was printed with which printer. Very slick and also very handy. Around here people sometimes forget which printer they sent a document to, but this program always knows. And you can print a wide range of reports that can help you see patterns and trends. For example, I found that one printer in particular was getting used more often than any other on the network. Armed with this information I went and reconfigured several of our laptops to print to other printers on the network. This spread out the work load. Slick.

Printer Activity Monitor can show you if one person is printing more than anyone else. You can have the software generate reports that show how many pages were printed by each printers, and what person or computer initiated each print job. According to the company, the printer usage of their customers goes down 15 to 40% within a month of installing Printer Activity Monitor. It's an excellent way to monitor how printers on your network are used, gauge how many supplies you need to buy, and so on. So, if you're in a situation with multiple printers going, give this program a try. Very nicely done!
