Custom web browser
The LanMate browser is a custom browser. This is to say, its look and feel is completely under your control. You can adjust everything: from toolbar buttons to security details. The LanMate browser puts your application in front. It will also get a look and feel of a true Windows application, rather than a web site.

ActiveSite compiler companion
You can create true web applications today. Using ActiveSite Compiler to compile and pack your application, in combination with the LanMate browser gives you the ideal tools to deploy your web solutions to customers, show them exact look and feel and avoid deployment problems.
One frequent stumbling point for a web application is execution on a computer that has no permanent network connection or no network card. In such cases, it is possible that the default browser (Internet Explorer) will try to establish a default dial up (modem) connection, which is not required nor needed.
Using LanMate with the ActiveSite compiler you can prevent support calls and give a true feeling of your application, without installation glitches.

Network protection
The distinctive feature of the LanMate is that it monitors every URL that web page tries to load. Unless the domain of the URL is explicitly allowed by the administrator, it will be rejected and not loaded in the browser.
But if the URL is allowed by the administrator, then the active content will be allowed to run. This way predefied applications will continue to work with no limits; while everything else gets blocked.
The supplied administration tools allow you to completely customize the browser. This is done by creating and modifying configuration files, which contain information about the custom features and security issues.
LanMate also comes with a set of pre-build Rendezvous utilities, for exposing your web services. This gives you the possibility to administer and manage your Rendezvous web applications.

Integrated Rendezvous service
The Rendezvous is innovative technology evolved from Apple Mac OS X that allows seamless discovery and using web and other network services. Later on, the technology is standardized into the ZeroConf technology.
Rendezvous is a very similar system to the "plug-and-play", but for for web services and sites. When a web site is up and running (and declared from the server), all browsers will automatically discover it and include it on the list of available web sites. This is done using multicasting technologies, such that your network has minimal traffic for these announcements.
The end result is that all your web services are automatically up and running, without explicit installation or any changes from the end-client side. The only thing you need to do is to broadcast intranet from the central location (server) and the system takes care of the rest.

Browser with multiple engines
The LanMate browser can equally use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla browser engine. These two engines are currently the most popular web platforms for developers, and each of these have its own advantages. The Internet Explorer is still the most widely used, with a lot of features for a web programmer, so it is possible that your web applications are simply developed for it - and will not work on any other browser.
On the other hand, Mozilla / Firefox is praised because of its stability and security. LanMate can use both these engines - without the need for the browser itself! Some companies start to prefer not having a general purpose browser installed on their workstations at all - and LanMate can and will fully support that configuration.
