What is wav?
WAV (pronounced WAVE) is an uncompressed Windows audio format , similar to the AIFF format used in Apple Macintosh computers. WAV files store digital music data in a lossless format, meaning the file will be digitally identical to its source. However, the result is a very large, uncompressed file.
When digital music's popularity begin to boom as file sharing over the internet became popular to the mainstream in the late 1990's, the WAV format quickly lost out to the smaller, more portable lossy audio formats such as the MP3 .
