How to use YMPEG with VirtualDub?

1. Complete your editing.



2. If requires, add appropriate resize (for making VCD and SVCD) filter from Video Menu->Filters. Be careful if you are resizing the interlace video source, read more in A & E's Technical Guide.

3. Optional: If requires, add deinterlace and noise reduction filter (From Video Menu->Filters). Although, it may slow down your encoding process little bit, it may improve quality substantially. See links for more information on deinterlacing.

4. If you are encoding noisy source, use built-in smart de-noiser (General tab). It is a good idea to use this de-noiser always. If speed is a concern, use built-in DCT de-noiser instead. Alternatively, You may also consider one of the filters from http://neuron2.net/index.html, for example High Quality Smoother or Convolution3D.

5. Select YMPEG as video compression codec from Video menu





6. Click on Configure button to configure YMPEG Video codec. Make sure to configure output file name. Click OK to finish configuring.



7. Select YMPEG as Audio compression codec from Audio menu. Select Appropriate Audio Format and Click OK. Make sure to select "Full Processing Mode".





8. Unselect all Display options from Options menu (press F9, F10).



9. Start compression by clicking 'Save As AVI' from file menu. The filename you enter here will be a dummy file generated by VirtualDub and will not be usable. Actual output file will be the one which you have configured in YMPEG Configuration dialog.

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms (95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.
