How to Use a Domain Name in NetServe Web Server?
10/25/2007 Web Developer
NetServe Web ServerGetting NetServe Web Server running from home, with a Domain name is actually a pretty simple task.

Once all the steps below have been performed you will be able to access your website using www.mydomain.com (Where 'mydomain' is the Domain you register).

Below is a quick step by step guide:
As you most likely have a modem/dsl connection to the internet, your IP address will change every time you connect to the internet, for this reason you cannot simply purchase a domain name, you must first register with a DNS service such as ZoneEdit.

Step 1 - Register with ZoneEdit

    Register with ZoneEdit at http://www.zoneedit.com/signup.html

This is a FREE DNS service (depending on your bandwidth usage) that is used to keep track of your current IP and ensures that a users domain request gets through to your computer.

Step 2 - Register you Domain Name

Register your Domain name with any of the many Domain Registration companies available on the net, when asked to supply the IP addresses of your DNS servers use the IP Addresses supplied by ZoneEdit.

If you already have a Domain name registered, simply ask your registrar to change the IP addresses for the DNS Server to point to those supplied by ZoneEdit.

    Step 3 - Configure ZoneEdit

Login to ZoneEdit and confirm the details of your Domain Name.

Step 4 - Install Dynamic IP Software

Install some Dynamic IP software on your computer, and configure it for use with ZoneEdit, we recommend DynDNS www.sitedevelopers.com/dyndns this software will keep ZoneEdit's DNS Server up to date with the IP address of your computer.
