Recently, on June 9th, 2009. Apple Inc. released its new stable version web browser Safari 4.0, which is available both on Mac and Windows. For most of Windows users, they all want to experience this former Mac OS default web browser and learn more about it. But Safari is a distinctive web browser from Microsoft Internet Explorer. Some of Windows users may be puzzled when they surf Internet with Safari 4.0 on Windows platform.
Tips and Tricks for using Safari 4.0.
1. Update plug-ins - most of plug-ins should work well with the new version Safari browser, but nothing is perfect. So it may be needed for you to update the Safari plug-ins, Go to the Preferences and in the updates section, check the box that says Include Beta versions. Now when you check for updates it should download a version that works with Safari 4.
2. Add zoom button - the newest Safari 4 provides you multiple customized options for you to create your own menu. You can choose Customize Toolbar from the preference setting to add the zoom button to the toolbar by dragging.
3. Disable bookmarks Cover Flow - If you do not like the new Cover Flow, you can remove it from your Safari 4. Type the following command in Bookmark window.
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeFlowViewInBookmarksView -bool FALSE
And then repeat TRUE at the end to revert back to the original behavior.
4. Disable Top Sites - do not like the new Top Sites in Safari 4.0. use the following command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeTopSites -bool FALSE. If you wanna recover Top Sites, just repeat TRUE at the end.
5. Add websites to Top Sites - if you want to add the webpage you like to Safari Top Sites, that's easy. Open webpage in a seperate windows, then drag the favicon (next to the address) over to one of the positions in Top Sites. You can also drag sites from your bookmarks to Top Sites.
