1. Browse more easily on netbooks

If you're viewing a website on a tiny netbook screen, make the page bigger by pressing the F11 key. This switches IE8 into full-screen mode, removing all trace of the browser and letting the web page occupy the entire screen. If you move your mouse near the top of the screen, the missing parts of the screen reappear temporarily. Get back to normal by pressing F11 again.

2. Accelerators help you search fast

Internet Explorer 8 includes a number of useful Accelerators to get you started. Simply highlight text from any webpage, and then click on the blue Accelerator icon. The Accelerator icon that appears above your selection to get things done faster than ever. You can add more by going to the Internet Explorer Gallery to customize the browser with Accelerators from Bing, eBay, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, Amazon, Facebook, and other sites in a way that works for you. It is unnecessary to take too many steps to browser to map an address, traslate a word, or perform other routine tasks online.

3. Search fast with Search suggestions

The new search capabilities in Internet Explorer 8 will offer relevant suggestions as you type words into the search box to help save time. Click on a suggestion at any time to immediately execute the search without having to type the entire word or phrase. It can make you search fast.

4. Master your add-ons

IE8 introduced the concept of Accelerators. However, the more you install the more crowded you will find your accelerator menus becoming. You can control them by going to Tools then Manage Add-ons. You'll see a list of all currently-loaded add-ons by default but you can change this to show all add-ons by pressing the button under Show.

5. Improve ability to magnify pages

Adaptive Page Zoom improves upon traditional zoom-in/zoom-out functionality in the browser by intelligently relaying out the page content and eliminating the need to scroll left and right. This will improve your ability to magnify pages with small fonts and be able to read more on the web.

6. Using Web Slices to save time

Using Web Slices, you can keep up with frequently updated sites directly from the new Favorites Bar. If a Web Slice is available on a page, a green Web Slices icon will appear in the Command Bar. Click on this icon to easily subscribe and add the Web Slices to the Favorites Bar so you can keep track of that "slice" of the web. So you do not have to take so many times a day to do check for updates to e-mail, weather reports, sports scores, stock quotes, auction items email and so on.

7. Increase your download limit

By default Internet Explorer limits you to two simultaneous downloads to ensure that your bandwidth is used as effectively as possible. However, with very fast connections becoming more common, you might prefer to increase the number of downloads you can have running at the same time.Microsoft has provided a simple wizard to increase the download limit to 10.

8. Domain highlighting improves you pc security

Internet Explorer 8 is the first browser to provide domain highlighting, so you always know which website you're visiting. Domain Highlighting lets you more easily interpret web addresses (URLs) to help you avoid deceptive and phishing sites that attempt to trick you with misleading addresses. It does this by highlighting the domain name in the address bar in black, with the remainder of the URL string in gray, making for easier identification of the sites true identity.

9. Using InPrivate Browsing mode to launch a site

InPrivate Browsing is a new mode in Internet Explorer 8. It removes all traces of your browsing, including history, temporary files and log-in data. But if you don't want to constantly turn this feature off and on, you can create a shortcut to launch just a specific website with InPrivate mode activated.
To do this, create a shortcut as described above, append ¨Cprivate followed by a space, followed by the web address of the site you want to access, for example -private www.mybank.co.uk. Now when you double-click this shortcut, it loads up www.mybank.co.uk with InPrivate mode switched on every time.
