How to run PC Tools File Recover?
- Launch/Open File Recover
- Under 'Select an Action' click the 'Start Full Scan' button.
- Once the scan completes you should see the previously deleted files in the 'scan results' window.
- Files are recovered to the location indicated in the "Recover To:" field just above the Scan results screen.
Change the destination of where you recover the files to by clicking the 'Browse...' button and then navigate to where you want them to go. - Select the files that you want to fully recover, then click click the "Recover" button in the bottom-left corner of the Scan results screen. *This button is only active when at least one file is selected in the Scan results*
- If you attempt to fully recover files to the same drive or partition on which you are recovering files, a warning message may display, indicating that you could reduce your chances of further file recovery.
This message has the following options:
* Click Yes (default) to continue with file recovery.
* Click No to select a different drive or partition. You will need to click the "Recover" button again to initiate full File Recovery.
To stop this message appearing, go to General Settings from the Settings screen and clear the check box next to "Show warning if recovering files to the same drive scanned".
Please Note:The integrity of recovered files is usually dependent on the condition in which File Recover found the files during the scanning process.
PC Tools File Recover
File Recover allows you to recover critically important documents, or other files, which have been lost by accidental deletion. These files may be lost by emptying the Recycle Bin, or using other deletion actions that bypass the Recycle Bin altogether. Such actions include Windows Shift-Delete, command line deletion, deleting excessively large files or using applications that delete files without the Recycle Bin. When a file is deleted from the Recycle Bin, or if the recycle bin is bypassed altogether, the file can no longer be recovered by the Windows Operating system. The content of the file still remains on the drive, relatively intact, until the section of the drive it occupies is overwritten by another file. File Recover identifies the contents of such lost files on the hard drive and allows you to recover them. If a file has been partially overwritten, File Recover attempts to reconstruct as much of the file as possible with the remaining contents. This allows you to salvage at least part, if not all, of that recovered file to continue using it as required.
