How to remove / uninstall codecs in Windows 2000?
Remove or add compressor/decompressor files (codecs) in Windows 2000.

1. Restart your computer in Safe mode:
a. Restart your computer.
b. Press the F8 key before Windows starts.
c. On the Windows 2000 Advanced Options menu, use the ARROW keys to select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking, and then press ENTER.
d. If you have a dual-boot or multi-boot computer, select Microsoft Windows 2000, and then press ENTER.
e. Log on to your computer.
2. Remove the codec in Safe mode:
a. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
b. Double-click Sounds and Multimedia.
c. In the Sounds and Multimedia Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab. Double-click the codec that you want to remove.
d. In the Audio Codecs Properties dialog box, click the Properties tab.
e. Click the codec that you want to remove, and then click Remove.
f. Follow the instructions on the screen to completely remove the codec.
g. When you are prompted to do so, restart your computer.
