How to install YamiPod for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux?

Notes for installing YamiPod for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. YamiPod is a freeware application to efficiently manage your iPod under Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.

YamiPod is a freeware application to efficiently manage your iPod under Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It can be run directly from your iPod and needs no installation. Take a look at the feature list to find out what it can do and feel free to suggest anything that might be missing.



Following is the notes you need know on installing YamiPod for Windows and Mac.

Click here to download YamiPod for Windows , and YamiPod for MacOS X (universal binary).

No installation is required: download YamiPod, extract it and launch the application (iPod will be automatically detected).

Just make sure you:
    * have run iTunes at least once (which setups iPod correctly)
    * have at least one song on the iPod
    * set your iPod to work as a Hard Disk as shown here. It's also suggested to uncheck the Open iTunes when this iPod is attached option.
    * set iTunes to manage songs manually as shown here.
    * have QuickTime Player installed under Windows. Otherwise you won't be able to play songs within YamiPod.
Note:
    no libraries nor preferences files will be copied to your system. YamiPod saves all data on iPod.

    - you'll download a zip file under Windows and a dmg.gz file under Mac OS X, these are compressed file formats.
    - Under Mac OS X just double click the file to uncompress it.
    - Under Windows you may need a ZIP decompression utility like Winrar.

How to install YamiPod for Linux?

* make sure you've used iTunes at least once (under Windows or Mac OS X)
* have at least one song on iPod
* copy the libfmodex audio library to /usr/lib (root priviledges needed). You'll find this file in the package you've downloaded
* mount your iPod somewhere inside /mnt or /media with read/write access
* make sure you have the df command installed, which is usually part of any standard linux distriburion.

To run YamiPod just double click on YamiPod's binary.
