Guide to install WinRAR in a network environment.
This month's most popular software guide you should know - How to move photos from my iPhone to my computer

To install in silent mode:
    WinRAR SFX module and WinRAR distributive supports /s switch which forces the silent mode. So it is possible to run:

    wrar300.exe /s

    to install WinRAR silently. If you wish to run directly uninstall.exe, run:

    uninstall.exe /setup /s

To install special WinRAR settings:
    Another useful feature is the "Import/Export settings" command in the "Options" menu. You may configure one WinRAR copy, export settings and then copy Settings.reg file which will be created in a WinRAR folder to every new folder with the installed WinRAR before running winrar.exe for the first time. If WinRAR was installed to a computer which did not have WinRAR before and if it finds settings.reg in its folder, it will import settings automatically when executed for the first time. Even if this computer already had an older WinRAR version, it is possible to import settings.reg either by using the Options menu or by running:

    regedit /s settings.reg

To create an install scipt:
    For example, if you wish to install WinRAR from removable media, you may place the following files to the disk:

    wrar300.exe

    settings.reg contained required settings

    install.bat with the following commands:

    mkdir "c:Program FilesWinRAR"
    copy settings.reg "c:Program FilesWinRAR"
    wrar300.exe /s
    regedit /s "c:Program FilesWinRARsettings.reg"

    and run this install.bat on every computer.

To disable main menu and the settings dialog:
    Since WinRAR 3.10 it is possible to disable the main menu and settings dialog using "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareWinRARPolicy" Registry key. This feature may help to preserve WinRAR settings in a multiuser environment. Read the "Configuration settings/Registry variables" topic in the winrar.hlp for more details.

To change install directory:
    If you want to install WinRAR for example into C:AppsWinRAR and not into C:Program FilesWinRAR.

    Using WinRAR 3.10 beta 1 - beta 4, you may add the following strings to the end of settings.reg:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareWinRAR SFX]
    "C%%Program Files%WinRAR"="C:AppsWinRAR"

    and import settings.reg before running 'wrar310.exe /s'

    regedit /s settings.reg.

    If you wish to install WinRAR 3.00 (it is applicable to 3.10 too), you may either rebuild the distributive and change 'Path=WinRAR' to 'Path=c:AppsWinRAR' in the archive comment or just copy unpacked distributive files to c:AppsWinRAR and copy settings.reg to the same folder. Of course, settings.reg must be generated by WinRAR installed to c:AppsWinRAR.

WinRAR 3.71 - New features

1. Archive names in rar.log error log file always include the full path.

2. WinRAR tray icon is compatible with high DPI display modes.

3. If you modified a file in archive with encrypted names using an external editor, WinRAR will not ask for archive password again when prompting to update a file. It will use a password which you entered when opening an archive,

4. Bugs fixed:

a) switch -tl and "Set archive time to latest file time" option could fail in previous version. Sometimes they set archive time to current system time instead of latest file time;

b) if -ag switch mask contained archive number, month and minute characters, WinRAR placed 'I' character instead of minute value into generated archive name for archive numbers exceeding 1;

c) high ASCII names in ISO files using ISO 9660 format without Joliet format extension were displayed incorrectly;

d) WinRAR could crash when decompressing some of corrupt RAR archives;

e) if "Turn PC off when done" option was set in "Convert archives" command, WinRAR turned PC off after converting the first archive in selected group instead of after converting the entire group;

f) if user specified a non-existent destination path in SFX archive in Vista, SFX could enter into infinite "create new SFX window" loop;

g) WinRAR could fail to unpack an individual file from subfolder of ACE archive using the drag and drop.
