Vlc media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols without external codec or program. It can play MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 / DivX files from a hard disk, a CD-ROM drive, and DVDs, VCDs, Audio CDs and so on. Now our problem has been solved with vlc media player. Step 1: Open the DVD in VLC Media Player. The quickest way to do this is to right click the DVD's icon in the "My Computer" control panel and select "Play with VLC Media Player".

Step 2: Click on the "File" button and select "Open Disc..." from the drop-down menu that appears.

Step 3: Select "DVD" from the different options presented in the dialog box. Then enter your DVD player's drive letter in the "Device name" field.



Step 4: Enter "0" into the "Chapter" field and hit "OK." Check if the video VLC loads is the one you want to rip. If it's not, go back to the "Open Disc..." control panel and increase the "Chapter" number until you find the right one.

Step 5: Check the "Stream/Save" box near the bottom of the panel. Then click the "Settings" button next to this box.

Step 6: Put a check in the "Video codec," "Audio codec" and "Subtitle codec" boxes. Also check the "File" box and enter a name for your ripped DVD by clicking the "Browse" button and creating a new file for it.

Step 7: Select "OK" until you're back at the VLC Player's main screen.

After those steps, your movie should now transcode to your hard drive. Now you can watch the DVD with vlc media player. VLC media player is a powerful and easy to use software for ripping DVD.

For Mac users, you can use iSkysoft DVD Ripper for Mac to do this task, it can rip DVD on Mac and even rip DVD on Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
