This problem can generally be resolved via the following procedure:
1. Downgrade iTunes 10 to iTunes 9.2.1
2. Copy the folder "Program Files\iPod" to a safe location (such as your desktop)
3. Reinstall iTunes 10
. Ignore any iPod Service errors
4. Replace the new folder at "Program Files\iPod" with the one you previously saved (the version installed by iTunes 9.2.1
5. Relaunch iTunes 10
