Step 1. Open up a terminal by clicking Applications/Accessories/Terminal and type the following command to tell the computer to run apt-get:

  • sudo apt-get update

Step 2. After the update is finished then type the following cmd to update some important networking software within Ubuntu 10.4:

  • sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-utils

Step 3. After the ndiswrapper-utils installation is finished, type the following line to install the wireless card's actual firmware:

  • apt-get install b43-fwcutters

That's all. Now you should get the Wi-Fi working on your Dell Insprition 15R laptop with Ubuntu 10.04.
