How to delete the index.dat file in Windows with Privacy Guardian?

Index.dat is a locked Windows system file which cannot be deleted. What Privacy Guardian does in this regard is it replaces the contents of index.dat by setting it all to zeros. This leaves windows a file that is the same size as it was originally, however the information included is replaced. It may be necessary to boot the computer to complete the clean of index.dat.

Please make sure of the following:

  1. Your installation of Privacy Guardian is registered with your license details.
  2. Open Privacy Guardian and close any instances of other programs.
  3. Click the "Clean Your Computer" button.
  4. Expand the Internet Explorer Section by clicking the plus then select the Index.dat component within this section. This will automatically select the cookies section.
  5. Click Clean and then restart your PC when prompted with this option.
