To help protect your personal information, change your password regularly. To change your password, follow these steps:
1. Sign in to
Account Services.
2. Click
Credentials, and then click
Change your password.
3. In the
Old password box, type your current password.
4. Type and confirm a password for your account. Your password is case sensitive (Capable of distinguishing between uppercase [capital] and lowercase [small] letters. For example, A is different from a. If information is case sensitive, it must be typed with the required capitalization.) .
5. To set your password to expire automatically every 72 days, select
Password expiration, and then click
Continue. You'll receive a reminder when it's time to change your password.
6. Specify an alternate e-mail address (An e-mail address that is different from your primary Windows Live ID e-mail address. Using an alternate e-mail address is the easiest way to reset your password if you cannot access your Windows Live ID.) if you haven't done this previously. If you don't want to use an alternate e-mail address, click
Skip, and then click
Done.

If you've set other programs to remember your password, you'll need to type the new password the first time you use them after the password change.
Some services require you to change your password every 72 days. If you use one of these services, automatic password expiration may be set already and can't be changed.
Even a strong password can be guessed. People who have enough time and computing power can eventually determine any password. To help protect your personal information, security experts recommend that you change your password regularly and avoid repeating the previously used passwords.
