How to backup mail of mozilla thunderbird mail

Mozilla Thunderbird - are great, but in two places they are even better. This is true in particular if that other place is a shiny new computer emitting the certain new laptop smell. Fortunately, copying all your Mozilla Thunderbird data is easy.

1.Back Up or Copy Your Mozilla Thunderbird Email

• Make sure Mozilla Thunderbird is not running
• Open your Mozilla Thunderbird profile directory.

This step is not the same in different OS:

On Windows:

• Select Run... from the Start menu.
• Type "%appdata%" (without the quotes).
• Hit Return.
• Open the Thunderbird folder.
• Go to the Profiles folder.
• Now open the folder of your Mozilla Thunderbird profile (probably "********.default" where the '*'s stand for random characters) and the folder beneath it.

On Mac OS X:

• Open your home folder.
• Go to the Library folder.
• Open the Thunderbird and then the Profiles folders.
• Open your profile's directory (probably "********.default" where the '*'s stand for random characters).

On Linux:

• Go to the ".thunderbird" directory in your home "~" directory.
• Open the profile directory (probably "********.default" where the '*'s stand for random characters).
• Highlight all files and folders in it.
• Copy the files to the desired backup location.
• You can compress the files and folders to a zip file and move the zip file instead.
• Now you can restore the profile on another computer, or when problems arise.

2. Backup item states

• Ready The item is ready for backup, you can check/uncheck the check-box on left of the item. The item size displayed on right of the item.
• Searching Backup program is searching file/registry items, before you choose this item to backup you need wait until the searching process is end.
• Wait The item is waiting for search
• Disable The item is disabled, that means the backup item doesn't exists. Maybe the email client is installed incorrectly.
