PhishGuard

Introduction

PhishGuard is a software/service that helps you detect and block phishing or spoofing attempts, usually designed to lure you into providing personal or credit card information to fake online sites. The program integrates into Internet Explorer and warns you whenever you visit a site that is known to be a scam. It uses an online community database that you can easily submit suspicious links or emails to, by using a simple drop icon on your desktop.

Free versions of PhishGuard work with Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer. PhishGuard Pro, our premier product, works with all popular browsers and offers other enhancements, including more frequent scam database updates.

The first person to discover a suspected phishing scam can use PhishGuard to report the offending email or URL (website address), literally in seconds. There is no need to divulge any confidential information to the scammers. Within minutes, our monitoring team has verified the scam, and added it to the PhishBase database. Updates to the database are rapidly distributed to every PhishGuard-protected computer, effectively immunizing them against the newly discovered scam.

The first thing you notice is the PhishGuard icon in the Windows System Tray. This indicates that the PhishGuard system is ready and waiting -- using an up-to-date database of scams to actively monitor for malicious websites.

While reviewing your morning email you receive a message from your financial institution requesting that you login and validate your account information.

You click on the login link in the body of the email message. Internet Explorer launches, but BEFORE THE SITE APPEARS the PhishGuard alert window is displayed.

You decide to submit this to PhishGuard central for review, so that our team of Internet security analysts can quickly determine whether this is a fraudulent web site. Opening PhishGuard, you simply drag and drop the Internet Explorer URL onto the PhishGuard submission screen.

Optionally, you indicate the type of Internet scam and your degree of confidence. All information is sent confidentially to PhishGuard for further analysis.

PhishGuard acknowledges that your submission has been received and will be reviewed by our team of security analysts.

Within minutes, you receive notification that this is indeed another phishing scam. Your vigilance will now pay off in increased security for all other members of the PhishGuard community.
