Step 2: Download the Lame MP3 Encoder Plug-In for Audacity. This plug-in makes it possible for Audacity to export captured sound as MP3 files.

Step 3:Open Audacity and go to "Preferences," which is found under the "Edit" menu. In the "Device" box of the "Recording" section on the "Audio I/O" tab, select the "Stereo Mix" option. Click "OK" to return to Audacity's main screen.

Step 4: Press the button with the red circle in Audacity. Audacity will begin to record everything that is played through your computer's speakers.

Step 5: Open the VRF file. It will open only in the Ventrilo software. If you do not have Ventrilo on your system, you can install it for free. Let the file play all the way through. Don't do anything else on your computer while Audacity is recording. Any sounds made from clicking on links or opening websites will also be captured by Audacity.

Step 6: Edit the file down. Since you started recording before opening the VRF file, there will be extra space at the beginning of your captured audio. This can easily be deleted in Audacity. Use your mouse to highlight the part of the file that needs to be deleted and press the "Delete" button on your computer. The empty space will disappear.

Step 7: Export the captured audio as MP3. The option to "Export As MP3" appears in the "File" menu. When you select this option, a pop-up window may ask you where the Lame MP3 Encoder is located. Browse to the folder and double-click on the encoder to sync it up to Audacity. Your file will export as MP3 and save into the same folder as the original file.
