Step 1: Buy a license or a register key of WinRAR or RAR.

Step 2: Go to your email. Upon receipt of that email, which includes this procedure along with your personalised RARREG.RAR file, you will need to extract your password protected key file from inside that attachment and copy it to your WinRAR or RAR folder.

Step 3: Download Winrar, then install it. When you double click on the RARREG.RAR attachment, WinRAR will start up and you will see that RARREG.RAR contains your RARREG.KEY file followed by an asterisk * (indicating that it is encrypted with a password). For this we will use your AV (Author Verification) registration code as your password.

Step 4:

To extract your WinRAR keyfile for Windows XP (and earlier):

1. Double click on RARREG.KEY and you will be prompted to enter your password (this is the same as your AV Registration code - it is Case Sensitive and includes spaces etc).
2. Then right click RARREG.KEY and from the menu select: Extract to the Specified Folder.
3. Finally click on WinRAR to highlight it and click OK.
4. In its right hand panel double click on C:, then on the + to the left of Program Files,
5. RARREG.KEY will then be extracted and copied to your WinRAR directory.
6. Your copy of WinRAR on that computer is now registered, as your RARREG.KEY file is now in your /Program Files/WinRAR folder.
7. To check your registration is OK, open WinRAR (Start, All Programs, WinRAR) and click on the Help button (near the top of the WinRAR window), select About WinRAR ... and your AV code should appear under Registered to.

To extract your WinRAR keyfile for Windows Vista :
1. Double click on RARREG.KEY and you will be prompted to enter your password (your AV code or name if no AV code was supplied - Case Sensitive and includes spaces etc).
2. Then right click RARREG.KEY and from the menu select: Extract to the Specified Folder.
3. In its right hand panel double click on Desktop to highlight it and click OK. RARREG.KEY will then be extracted and copied to your Desktop.
4. Now hold down the Windows key and press "E" to open Windows Explorer (it will show "Computer" in the Address bar of the Explorer window). If the word Folders appears in the bottom of the left panel then click on it.
5. On that left panel, click on Local Disk (C:), then click on the triangle to the left of Program Files and move the slider bar down until you can see the WinRAR folder.
6. Now click on Desktop (near the top of the left panel). In the right panel you should see an icon or file named rarreg.key (or jusr rarreg) that you just extracted to that folder
7. Go back to the left panel double click on C:, then click on the triangle to the left of Program Files and move the slider bar down until you can see the WinRAR folder.
8. Click and select that rarreg.key file from the right hand (Desktop) folder and move it across to the WinRAR folder.
9. Congratulations! Your copy of WinRAR on that computer is now registered, as your RARREG.KEY file is in your /Program Files/WinRAR folder.
10 To check your registration is OK, open WinRAR (Start, All Programs, WinRAR) and click on the Help button (near the top of the WinRAR window), select About WinRAR ... and your AV code should appear under Registered to.
11. Windows Vista security will not allow us to extract files directly into the Program Files folder!


To extract your RAR keyfile for Mac, Linux, or DOS operating systems:
1. Using RAR and your password (your AV registration code or name if no AV code was supplied - Case Sensitive and includes spaces etc). and extract your rarreg.key into your RAR program folder
2. To check your registration is OK, start RAR with no commands, your AV code should appear immediately below the RAR version and copyright notice.
