"AVS DVD Player Reviews - Freeware for play DVD"
by lucy on Feb 20, 2008

Pros:
This tool supports most popular audio and video formats. It's an easy-to-use program with a user-friendly interface. It contains several codec programs, such as AVS Video to iPod, to PSP and so on; it's a nice design for common users. It could be compatible with the latest operating system--Windows Vista. This freeware is easy enough for a newbie to entertain.
Cons:
There are some deficiencies compared with other powerful DVD Players. The buttons are less than a shareware DVD Player and an advanced user would be a little disappointed. When I try to drag and drop the process, it warns me not to do so. Yet other DVD Player could support drag-and-drop. The Help file is not bundled with the tool, which surprised me a lot, and the downloaded one need installing!
Benefits:
AVS DVD Player is a full - featured media player. We could utilize it to watch DVDs, Video and listen to our favorite music. When I first launched it, the first impression is beautiful; while I didn't consider it powerful at first. Yet I was wrong--when I search other program by clicking "Start" and then I found this tool carried several helpers. We could even use it to transform files to Blackberry!
As we all know, one the most popular MP3 players is iPod. With large capacity and video support, more and more youth can hardly discard iPod--it's very useful. Though AVS DVD Player is free, it could support Video conversion to iPod. As a game fan, who could ignore PSP? It's handy and full of recreations--not for games only, but video play as well; thus this tool contains the function of video conversion to PSP. It's indeed considerate.
It is said version 2.4 could support Windows Vista.
Setup:
It takes only a few seconds to install this tool. There is no adware, spyware and malware, thus you could install it without hesitations.
Should you decide to remove this tool, it does provide us an uninstall button. All you need is to click it and the whole program can not be found on your systems.
Interface:
The interface of AVS DVD Player is a clear-cut one and the colors match well: green is suitable for eyes relaxing and black makes the tool look cool.
Each button is well explained itself and even a newbie could not be confused. It is a little pity that there is not many choices for advanced users to set their parameters.
The audio and video effects are good; you may as well try it.
System Requirements
This tool could be compatible with Windows 9X, ME, NT, XP and Vista (Vista 64-bit/Mac OS/Linux are NOT supported). The RAM requires 1GB or higher; this tool would take up about 14.27MB while it is recommended to leave no less than 1G to store video or audio files.
Conclusion
This tool performs well and it is another alternative to DVD players. As a common user, I couldn’t imagine to own an advanced program which is able to read Blu-ray or HD DVDs, as the basic recreation of watching DVD could meet my needs.
AVS DVD Player needs improving--some users complain their downloaded files cannot play DVD. It could not be users' fault; there might be some bugs or flaws in this tool. When I tried it, the control bar could not work well. It warned me the selected chapter could not play; while I tried it well by using another Player program.
This tool is not only a DVD Player, there are several codec bundled with it. You could convert some video files or audio files to your iPod or PSP. It's a good consideration.
Furthermore, this is a freeware. At least you could try it at first.
