Even the boldest dealers sometimes need some help. Drug Wars - Underworld allows you hire thugs, who help you fend of your foes. Thugs are characters in the game who are available, for a price, to assist you throughout the game.

Thugs are available to registered users only.

About Thugs

In Drug Wars - Underworld, thugs can play an important role in helping you reach success. These non-player characters can be hired and fired at your discretion. Not only do thugs help you when you encounter someone and must defend yourself, but they can also help carry product that won't fit in your pockets.

Thugs are managed using the Thugs Manager. This interface is accessed by clicking on the Thugs button on the Action Toolbar. The Thugs Manager allows you to view your current thugs as well as hire and fire thugs.

Thugs follow you wherever you go as long as they are in your employment. However, some thugs are less loyal than others, and may take off at any time. In addition, if you choose to pay your thugs daily and skip a payment, don't be surprised if they suddenly bolt.

Hiring Thugs

To hire a new thug, click the Hire Thug button in the Thug Manager. This will launch the 'Hire New Thug' interface where you can select a thug to hire. The thugs available for hire will vary by location.

Each available thug has a variety of details listed:

  • Up Front - The cost to hire the thug, if you choose to pay cash up front.
  • Daily Cost - The daily cost to employ the thug, if you choose to pay daily.
  • Per Incident - The per-incident price, if you choose to pay the thug based on when you use them.
  • Combat - A general rating of the thug's combat skill.
  • Carry - A general rating of the thug's ability to carry your product.

To hire a thug, select the thug and click Hire Thug. This will open the payment selection window, where you select how you would like to pay your thug.

  • Pay Up Front - You pay the thug a large cash sum up front. The thug agrees to work for you for the remainder of the game without further payment. This is often a pricey option, but is the best value overall.
  • Pay Daily - You agree to pay the thug a fixed amount per day. The thug agrees to work for you as long as you continue paying. This usually works out to be more expensive than paying cash up front, but cheaper than paying per incident (if you expect to use the thug frequently).
  • Pay Per Incident - You agree to pay the thug each time you need them to help you. Thugs you are paying this way do not help you to carry product.
Select the payment method, and click Select to hire the thug. Once hired, the thug will appear in the Thug Manager list.

Firing Thugs

To fire a thug, select the thug in the Thug Manager and click Fire Thug.

Be careful when firing a thug...if they are carrying any of your product (if you are using the space that they contributed to your inventory room), they will take the product with them when they leave.

Using Thugs

There are two ways you can use thugs. You can have them carry product for you, and you can have them help you during a conflict.

To have a thug carry product, you don't have to do anything. When you employ a thug who can help carry product, your available inventory room will increase. Simply use the space like you would use your own trenchcoat. Be aware that anything in the thug's contribution to your inventory space may be lost if the thug is fired, killed, or quits.

During a conflict, your thugs will automatically join in if you choose to fight. For thugs who are being paid per incident, you will be prompted to pay them if you want them to join in.
