What is Rhapsody?

Rhapsody is an online music service run by RealNetworks. Launched in December 2001, Rhapsody was the first music service to offer streaming on-demand access to nearly its entire library of digital music. Downloaded files come with restrictions on their use, enforced by Helix, RealNetworks’ version of digital rights management.

Rhapsody is a digital music service that lets you listen to whatever you want, wherever you are — without paying per track. And Rhapsody membership plans start at less than the cost of a CD a month, so you can listen to as much music as you want without limits.

Rhapsody

Main features:
Listen to millions of songs, thousands of artists — From new releases to old-time favorites, from the mainstream to experimental, from indie, hip-hop, classical to everything in between. Whatever you’re looking for, chances are you’ll find it on Rhapsody.

Discover new music, old favorites — It’s easy to find music you love in Rhapsody. Search by artist, title or browse by genre. Get personalized recommendations based on your recent listening history. Or tune into Rhapsody Channels to lose yourself in continuous, ad–free music.

Create and share playlists — Remember the 80s? Feelin’ country? Or maybe it’s time to chill? Whatever your mood, just drag and drop songs to create, edit and share the perfect mix. Plus, you can check out hundreds of user and celebrity playlists in Playlist Central.

Listen to music anywhere — Tune in on your PC or Web browser. Load and reload your compatible portable player and take your music to go. Or kick back and listen through TiVo® or a compatible home audio device.

About Rhapsody To Go
Rhapsody To Go is also a paid subscription at $14.99 per month. This option offers the same features as Rhapsody Unlimited plus the downloading of unlimited selections to computers without purchasing songs on a per-track basis. Users are not permitted to burn the tracks to CD, but they can be transferred to compatible PlaysForSure portable devices. These “subscription downloads” (also called tethered downloads) can not be transferred to an Apple iPod due to rights disagreements. The recent announcement that EMI will let digital retailers sell DRM-free music downloads will enable Rhapsody and other companies to sell major-label songs that play on the iPod, provided that they make such arrangements with the individual record labels.
