Verify that the BSD Subsystem was installed with the operating system. Check Macintosh HD under Library/Receipts for the BSD package. If it is not there, the BSD Subsystem will need to be installed. Use the following steps to install the subsystem:
1.
Insert the first Mac OS installation disc in the computer CD drive.
2.
Click the icon for the disc when it appears and open the Optional Install folder.
3.
Double-click the BSD Subsystem package to run the installation.
NOTE: With this option, it is possible to install only this part of the operating system. It is not necessary to reinstall the complete system.
4.
After the subsystem installation is complete, reinstall the HP software for the device.
5.
Add the device to the printer list in the Printer Setup Utility or Print Center.
NOTE: If there are further questions on how to install the BSD Subsystem, contact Apple support.
