DirectX plays a role in many functions, including 3D rendering, video playback, still and motion capture, TV Viewing applications, joystick and mouse interfaces, networking for multiplayer games, and many more. When DirectX features are disabled, video playback and 3D processing will not function as intended.
Symptoms
Some or all display driver/multimedia features of the ATI product are disabled when one or more supported items in DXDIAG are DISABLED or NOT AVAILABLE.
Technical Details
Certain DirectX features are dependent on other DirectX active features. For example, if DirectDraw Acceleration is disabled, Direct3D and AGP Texture acceleration is listed as NOT AVAILABLE even if the graphics card supports these features.
The DISPLAY tab in DXDiag can Enable/Disable the following DirectX features:
-
DirectDraw Acceleration
-
Direct3D Acceleration
-
AGP Texture Acceleration
Beside each of these features, the word ENABLED, DISABLED, or NOT AVAILABLE appears depending on whether the feature is active and/or supported.
For supported features, an active button appears beside the feature to enable/disable it. For unsupported features, the button is greyed out.
Resolution
To ensure proper operation of display driver/multimedia features, all supported DirectX features must be ENABLED.
- When all of the features are disabled, click on the enable button to activate all three Accelerators and test the Direct3D and ensure that it is functioning.
- Uninstall the drivers and reinstall with the most current package. Assistance with the un-install and re-install procedure may be obtained by searching our website for the article: "ATI Catalyst Suite Driver Installation Instructions"
